DLVSystem is actively involved in the national research initiative I-NEST – Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem, contributing to Spoke 2 – Health, Food and Lifestyles with a focus on the development of thermo-responsive recombinant biopolymeric proteins.
The project, supported by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR – Mission 4, Component 2, Investment 1.5), aims to create advanced biomolecular solutions with applications in precision medicine and diagnostics. At its core are Human Elastin-Like Peptides (HELP)—biomolecules capable of undergoing a reversible, temperature-dependent phase transition. These characteristics make HELP ideal for:
- Targeted delivery of antimicrobial peptides (HELP-hBD1)
- Promoting tissue regeneration (HELP-hEGF)
- Development of diagnostic tools (e.g., bilirubin detection via HELP-UnaG)
DLVSystem, a spin-off of the University of Calabria, is responsible for Work Packages 4 and 5, which are centered on the integration of Artificial Intelligence into the research process. The main activities include:
- Data extraction and dataset generation from scientific literature (e.g., PMC Article collections)
- Implementation of an Artificial Intelligence-based approach, combining the use of Large Language Models (LLM) with Retrieval-Augmented Generation techniques (RAG)
- Design of Machine Learning models to predict optimal plasmid and bacterial strain combinations, with the aim of maximizing efficiency in protein synthesis
The project is carried out in close collaboration with the University of Calabria, which leads the experimental phases related to protein production, purification, and sub-cloning.
DLVSystem contributes its AI expertise to support innovative research in the biomedical domain, in alignment with the goals of the PNRR to foster scientific excellence and technological innovation across Italy.
